An open letter from the Chairman
June 18, 2015
Since John Dean’s exit from NZIFCR the Board has been quietly working in the background to keep NZIFCR moving forward.
There was an early requirement to make a decision on the continuation of our hosting of the 9th World Rotary Festival of Cricket. When it became evident that continuing in Wellington would be a problem, a decision was made to switch the venue to Christchurch in 2017.
Arthur Pitcher indicated he was willing to organise the event (with the assistance of a committee) and this change of venue was ratified with IFCR. (You will see the progress they have made in another article on the website).
The next piece of business required election from within the Board of a new chairman and I was duly appointed.
The Board wishes to thank John and Rachael for their many years of enthusiastic service to NZIFCR, their commitment to organising and making NZIFCR’s many cricketing tournaments both within New Zealand and around the world enjoyable and their seamless mode of operation which will be hard to emulate.
They will be sorely missed and we wish them well for the future.
The Board as it now stands is as follows :
Dan Healey – Chairman
Geoff Atkinson – Treasurer
Paul O’Connor – Secretary
Due to the circumstances affecting the board over the summer it was decided not to hold our usual North Island v South Island tournament this year. Our intention is to register a team in the “Over 60’s Tournament” to be held at the Devonport Domain in Auckland during Easter 2016.
We shall look to hold our North v South game at that venue on the day preceding this tournament. We shall also take the opportunity to hold our AGM at that time with no AGM to be held this year.
Please indicate as soon as possible your willingness to participate at Devonport – further details will follow shortly.
The Board will also investigate venues for our next overseas tournaments and whether our IFCR companions from other countries are intending to tour over the 2015/2016 summer period . Further on from that, we look forward to hosting the many teams from around the world in Christchurch in January 2017 for the 9th World Rotary Festival of Cricket.
Dan Healey – Chairman NZIFCR
